Top Stories

nonguix Accessibility Discussion Reopens Forge Hosting

A long-running nonguix GitLab work item asks to host the project on a more accessible forge, arguing that GitLab requires phone-number and credit-card verification and blocks VPN access, which limits contributions to a channel many Guix users depend on for real-hardware support. The proposal suggests Codeberg or Savannah as a primary home with GitLab kept as a mirror, and the thread carries 29 comments.

kde-team Branch Merge Requested

A merge request for the kde-team branch was sent to guix-patches, generating 15 messages across contributors Andreas Enge, Rodion Goritskov, and Sughosha.

Guix 1.6.0 Release Team Being Formed

Noé Lopez opened a guix-devel thread on forming the next release team for 1.6.0, kicking off the planning cycle for the next Guix release.

Development

libcamera-minimal Noise Resolved

The issue reporting recurring libcamera-minimal noise in wireshark and other builds was closed after a revert of the hide-from-networking change landed, undoing the earlier hide attempt.

tzdata Update And Lint Adjustments

A pull request updates tzdata, removing the obsolete /right and /posix subdirectories now that upstream no longer ships them separately, and a companion lint change allows tzdata as tzdata-for-tests native inputs.

Core-Package Manifests And Refresh Leaf Listing Discussed

Nicolas Graves opened an issue on manifests for checking core packages to scope a wave of input-label removals without breaking the build, and a work-in-progress pull request adds a --list-leafs option to guix refresh to surface leaf packages by rebuild count.

Home Service Bugs Reported

Two home-service issues were filed: home-gpg-agent-service: --supervised is an invalid option, which breaks gpg-agent as an ssh-agent after recent changes, and a request that home-profile-service accept all file-like? objects.

Packages

Security Updates

Browser security updates landed for icecat to 140.14.0-gnu1 and librewolf to 154.0-2 in Guix proper, while nongu shipped firefox to 154.0 and firefox-esr to 153.1.0esr, alongside intermediate firefox and firefox-esr security fixes.

A pull request also proposes dropping obsolete linux-libre kernels 5.10, 5.15, 6.19, and 7.0.

Notable updates landed for ardour to 9.7, crun to 1.29.1, and podman to 6.1.0.
