motd is my latest and greatest vibecoding project where I am
learning how to modernly develop software [trigger warning]. It
started as a bit of a joke but then got pretty serious once I started
using it daily and then other people started using it as well.
As far as I can tell, no other IRC clients on Android have a "modern" chat app feel. When I say "modern", I mean like Telegram, of course. This is what I was aiming for, and I think I've achieved it. Judging from the feedback I've gotten in the #motd channel, other people think so too, even the haters:
<motd-lover1> I wonder how much of it is vibe coded.
I really love it
<trev> motd-lover1: all
except a few times where i got pissed off and hand edited some
stuff myself
<motd-user2> Lol
Code rage
<trev> exactly
<motd-lover1> That's so sas
Sad
<trev> it's mostly an app meant for me and some friends anyway...i
expect some FOSS people are adverse to the LLM and will reject it
<motd-lover1> So you're a 13 year old with a Claude platinum subscription
basically
<trev> lol...add a few decades
literally all other mobile irc apps are slop and trying to get
you to pay for it
<motd-lover1> trev: Hey trev don't get me wrong. This is heaven In a sea of
poopy diapers as you very well know.
Idk even the target SDK of those they all seem like stuck at 26
or something ancient.
Really hope u can continue this project long term. This is
amazing
That made me laugh, happy, sad and mad all at the same time!
