Built for Android

Built with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, motd connects to direct IRC networks and soju bouncers. Browse message history, follow replies, and share photos, files, drafts, or text pastes from the composer.

You need Android 8.0 or newer on a 64-bit ARM device. See the installation requirements.

Make it yours

Use Material You dynamic color or a curated editor and terminal palette. Choose your message layout and make conversations comfortable to read. See Configuration for appearance, uploads, and configuration backups.

IRCv3 and bouncers

motd negotiates capabilities with your server. Support depends on the network or bouncer, not just the app:

draft/chathistory for paging through bouncer history.
draft/read-marker for cross-device read state.
soju.im/bouncer-networks for multiple upstream networks over one connection.
soju.im/webpush for encrypted UnifiedPush delivery.
Replies, reactions, and typing indicators on supporting servers.

Plain networks still work with local history and a persistent socket. Start with a direct IRC or soju connection, then configure push notifications if your bouncer supports them.
